Monitoring the intervention
In anticipation of the start of the work, an inventory is being made of the current situation throughout the entire Zwin region. This inventory covering aspects such as hydrology, soil, vegetation and species of animals and insects will serve as a basis for monitoring and evaluating the implementation of the measures.
The aim is, in years to come, to keep this inventory up-to-date at all times (www.natuurenbos.be).
In order to be able to rapidly assess the impact of the expansion on groundwater and surface water in the (greater) Zwin environment, specialised monitoring is being organised in the surrounding agricultural land. This initiative is being funded by the Agency for Maritime and Coastal Services (Agentschap voor Maritieme Dienstverlening) and the Province of Zeeland.
